What To Watch On Netflix

Keeping yourself occupied with new things to watch whist in lock-down can be tricky. There is so much content on Netflix you could easily spend hours just scrolling through trying to find something new. Believe me I’ve done it. So, I’m going to recommend three movies that I really enjoyed, in the hope that you’ll like them as well. Lets get started.

Moneyball

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill star in 2011 film Moneyball. This is based on a true story of baseball team Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) who tries to create a winning team with the help of analyst Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) with limited money to spend and having sold their key players. How they try to accomplish this, I’ll leave for you to find out when you come to watch the film. The story is excellent and has you gripped from the start as it lays the foundation of the story early.

I must admit however, I don’t follow baseball, nor do I really know the details, stats and tactics that goes with it, so when these are spoken about, it did go over my head slightly, so be aware of this. Nevertheless, for me, this doesn’t take away much from the main plot of the film, however it would enhance the movie for you.

Coach Carter

Similar to Moneyball, Coach Carter is another sports based true story movie, however this time it focuses around a high school basketball team. Coach Carter (Samuel L. Jackson) takes drastic steps to improve the lives of the team he coaches. He tries to improve their lives beyond high school and beyond basketball, however these aren’t all welcomed changes.

I found this film hugely inspirational, how one man, despite adversity, persists in his values of trying his best to help his students be more than just what society presumes them to be. The performance of the cast and particularly Samuel L. Jackson is magnificent. Even if you aren’t a fan or know basketball that well, similarly to Moneyball, it doesn’t take away form the heart of the film, however it does help.

Troy

Troy depicts the Greek mythological tale of the Trojan horse. Brad Pitt plays the god favoured worrier Achilles. This man takes no prisoners and although he’s ruthless and comes across emotionless, as the story progresses you see there is indeed emotion and heart in this Greek hero. The 2004 film has great action sequences. The choreography is magnificent and is some of the best I’ve seen. The premise of the film however, is centred around the conflict between love and greed. Superb.

There you go. Three films that you may not have seen, in which case, give them a watch and let us know what you thought of them in the comments below. I must admit, I hadn’t seen Coach Carter and Moneyball until a few days ago, Troy I’ve seen before and is a film that I could easily watch over and over again. The same goes for CC and Moneyball.
