Munich Food Blog (Part 2)

This is the second and final part of my Munich food blog! I spoke about some cracking food in the first part. If you missed it, below is the link for you to check it out.

We visited Neuschwanstein Castle which is located a few hours drive south west of Munich. I would highly recommend a visit. A spectacular castle and some mouth dropping views. On the walk up to the castle there’s ‘Schlossrestaurant Neuschwanstein’. It’s a great restaurant with some amazing views and good food. Lets get into the details of the dishes we had there:

Sausages, Mash and Sauerkraut

Bavarian Sausages and mash with sauerkraut

Just like all dishes we had in Munich, this was a really substantial meal. Eight herby and meaty Bavarian sausages with creamy mash and a good helping of sauerkraut with a dollop of mustard and gravy. With any sausage and mash, everything works well together, however to make it stand out, it has to have good quality ingredients, which this dish did.

Currywurst

Now, the Currywurst isn’t the best dish we had in Munich, however it makes the list for how iconic it is. Currywurst is a popular snack in Germany, with some football grounds selling it at half-time, but it’s also sold in cafes and restaurants. There was even a Currywurst museum in Berlin to celebrate this moreish snack! It’s essentially a hotdog covered in a vinegary, curry sauce with a sprinkling of spicy curry powder, on top. We had it as part of a meal so it came with fries. The curry sauce wasn’t too spicy, however the powder gives it a kick. The sauce was quite vinegary as I said above, but I believe there are slight variations to this, depending on where you buy it. However it does goes well with the sausage so if you like curry sauce and chips, you’ll enjoy this. It’s very addictive, the more you have the more you want.

Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Sauce and Ice Cream

Oh yeah, this was good! I have quite a sweet tooth and chocolate cake with a warm chocolate sauce hits…the….spot. The sponge was soft and covered in a rich, thick chocolate sauce, matched that with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it makes a great trio. Plus a couple of squirts of cream, which I could personally have done without, and a puff pastry stick. I’m just glad I had a good walk up a hill before and after eating this one.

Well, that is it for my Munich food blog. The food we had was fantastic. The city was great and the people were extremely welcoming. I would love to go back once this pandemic is over and I’d highly recommend this city to anyone who hasn’t been before.

I hope you enjoyed the these two posts, let me know in the comments below what you thought of them. Also let me know your opinions on the food in Munich, what’s good and where you like to go, I’d love to hear from you.
