WARNING – THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS.
Now, this starts to get really difficult. I changed my mind multiple times before settling on the order of these films. All of them are magnificent and of such a high standard that it’s difficult to choose between them.

Right, let’s get down to business…
7. Captain America: Civil War
“Are you with ‘Team Cap’ or ‘Team Iron Man’?” The Russo brothers came back to direct the third instalment of the Captain America franchise, and their second Marvel movie after The Winter Soldier. This could easily have been called Avengers 2.5 as most of the Avengers showed up in the movie.
We are introduced to two iconic and very relevant characters: Peter Parker aka Spider-Man and T’Challa aka Black Panther. Peter was recruited by Tony Stark to help him capture Caps team. T’Challa, however, without question joined Team Stark. He’s only looking to capture and kill Bucky, after believing he killed his father King T’Chaka. To see Black Panther on screen was incredible and was arguably the standout character along with Cap and Iron Man. I like the political elements to the film. Each hero has to decided where they stand regarding the Sokovia accords then dealing with the consequences of their decisions.
The standout scene, for me, was obviously the airport scene with both teams battling each other. We saw Ant-Man turn into Giant-Man, Black Panther fighting Cap and of course that intro to Spider-Man. Every character had their moment in the fight and considering how many characters there are, it’s quite amazing.
The relationship between Wanda and Vision visually progressed, which I enjoyed. As for the main antagonist, Baron Zemo is arguably the physically weakest of all the MCU villains, however he accomplished exactly what he set out to do. Not many bad guys in the MCU can say that! Great character and I’m glad he’ll appear in ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’. The colours, however, just didn’t pop like they do in other MCU films. It just didn’t have the same aesthetic.
6. Spider-Man: Far From Home
There is so much to like about Far From Home. We saw the first ever on screen theatrical adaptation of Mysterio aka Quentin Beck. So far, both of the Spider-Man villains have been pretty decent, but out of the two Mysterio beats Vulture. He is one of the many reasons why I have ranked the movie higher than Homecoming,
The thoughfulness that went in the film is incredible. To have William, played by Peter Billingsley, from the first Iron Man film come back as part of Beck’s team, just shows the level of detail that Marvel go into with their movies. This also applies to Quentin himself. Stark presented Quentin’s tech in Civil War, as a therapeutic instrument and also named it Binarily Augmented Retro-Framing aka B.A.R.F. Quentin believed that his tech could change the world. Stark’s naming and application of the tech was a betrayal to him. This lead to Beck being fired. By highlighting backstories of these characters we have a better understand of their motives. “Why are they doing what they are doing?” This further shows the details Marvel goes into to create believable, robust and realistic stories.
The Mysterio scene in the middle of the film (I’m sure you know the one I mean) is just so so SOO good! It perfectly showcases the extent of Mysterios abilities. It has Peter guessing what and who is real in the scenes after this sequence with Mysterio. As we see in the end of the film the only way for Peter to combat these illusions is for him trust and understand his ‘Peter tingle’. Both of these senses are the standout scenes in the film, in my opinion.
MJ played a larger part in the film which was awesome. Zendaya does such a great job with MJ, I can’t wait to see her again in the third film. Peter’s feelings for MJ also plays an integral part in the film. The post credit scenes..WOW! What will Peters world look like now that his identity has been revealed and that he is presumably a wanted man? What a way to end the film and what a way to set up a third Spider-Man film. The twist of ‘Nick Fury’ being a Skrull poses questions about what has already happened and will happen in the future of the MCU.
5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
In my opinion 2014 was the year that the standard of the films grew hugely and it all started with The Winter Soldier. When I talk about style and how some films like Ant-Man are the comedic side of the MCU, this is certainly the Thriller genre of Marvel. The success of this movie is down to the brilliance of the Russo Brother and the quality of acting from the cast.
The Winter Soldier aka Bucky Barnes, for me, is one of the best characters in the MCU. In this film he serves as the antagonist. With his memory wiped, Bucky can’t remember that Steve is his best friend and this proves to be a dilemma for Steve. Rogers is caught between having to stop S.H.E.I.LD – who we find out is actually Hydra – and knowing that doing so would also mean having to go through his brain washed friend. It all plays out fantastically and pits you on the edge of your seat. The action scenes between the two friends was seriously well choreographed. The knife fight scene between Bucky and Cap is for me the best 1-on-1 combat scene in the MCU.
I like the how the friendship between Steve and Natasha (Black Widow) develops in the film. This friendship has been evident throughout the remainder of the MCU ever since. I think Romanoff always wants the best for Steve and has been a rock for him since The Winter Soldier. This was shown at Peggy’s funeral, where she was a shoulder to cry on, she tried to talk Steve out of his decision in Civil War because she knew the consequences. She also reassures him before the Avengers confronts Thanos at the beginning of Endgame.
The second Captain America film also introduced another hero, Sam Wilson, aka Falcon. Sam and Steve share similar values and have shared life experiences, as they were both in the army and both lost people close to them.
4. Guardians of the Galaxy
The second film in 2014 is GotG. There isn’t a film in the MCU like it. The comedy, the action, the music, the acting, all of it is magnificent. Even though he had a very small cameo in the post credit scene of the Avengers, this was the first time we properly see the mad titan Thanos. He doesn’t have a huge role, however just enough to understand what is after and the way he conducts himself. You can just sense the authority and power he possesses.
Having the collector explain what the Orb and the Infinity Stones are and what they can do, really plants the seed for what is to come in MCU. This coupled with the introduction of Thanos, I think this is the film where we begin to see the plant from the seeds that were sown in earlier films.
For me, Rocket is my favourite Guardian. He has a no nonsense, straight-forward personality and has is a genius at the same time. He keeps the other members of the Guardians at arms length. Except for Groot. There bond is that of brothers. At the start of the film he’s not interested in friendships, all he wants is his money. This changes when the Guardians – “…sitting in a circle” – decide to fight Ronin and stand up for something. This is where I think we see softening to Rocket towards Peter, Gamora and Drax.
Guardians of the Galaxy is, for me, one of the most re-watchable films in the entire MCU.
So there is Part 3 of my Ranked Marvel films. What do you think of the ranking so far? Part 4 will be out soon, so stay tuned.
